In collaboration with the group of Jennifer Ogilvie, we are partnering with the Toyota Research Institute of North America to develop new polaritonic chemistry. See the full announcement here. Please contact Kevin Kubarych if you are interested in this opportunity.
TRVS2021 is open for submissions!
Time Resolved Vibrational Spectroscopy 2021 was originally planned to take place in Ann Arbor, MI June 13-18 this year, but due to the pandemic it will instead be fully virtual. There will be a mix of traditional oral presentations and more pandemic-driven interactive “poster” sessions. We will also feature a day-long pre-meeting to showcase student and postdoctoral researchers, and enable them to network with the community.
Please submit your work by May 7!
Lindsay Michocki defends her PhD!
Lindsay became the first member of the group and only about the third student in UM history to defend her PhD during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown! Congrats Lindsay and good luck in your new job at Simon-Kucher in Boston!
Vivian Crum is awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship
In a first for the lab, Vivian was awarded the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship to support her research studying ultrafast dynamics and chemical reactivity of molecules strongly coupled to optical cavities. Congrats Vivian!
Welcome new graduate student Vivian Crum!
We are fortunate to welcome Vivian Crum to our lab following summer internships and a winter rotation. Vivian completed her undergraduate education at Muhlenberg College, working in the lab of Prof. Justin Sparks. At Muhlenberg, Vivian studied a new hybrid state of light-matter coupling that creates vibrational polaritons.
Ved Roy defends his PhD dissertation!
Ved did a terrific job defending his PhD research to study interfacial hydration using experiment, simulation and theory. Congrats Ved!
Welcome new postdoc Dr. Joseph Mastron
We are very excited to welcome Dr. Joseph Mastron as a postdoctoral researcher working on a new collaborative project as part of the Scalable Quantum Engineering and Manufacturing Blue Sky initiative, directed by Prof. Zetian Mi in EECS at UM. Joseph received his PhD from the University of Chicago working the lab of Prof. Andrei Tokmakoff using fluorescence to detect vibrational excitation.
Rong Duan passes her candidacy exam!
Congrats to Rong on doing a superb job in her candidacy exam!
Kim Daley defends her PhD!
Congrats to Kim for a wonderful PhD defense! Kim gave a great presentation of her work to study polymer hydration dynamics using 2D-IR spectroscopy. Best of luck in your new role as a postdoctoral researcher in the Ault Lab.
Peter Eckert defends his PhD!
Congrats to Peter on a delightful defense of his work to study hydrogenase model compounds using 2D-IR spectroscopy. We wish you good luck in your postdoctoral research at Oak Ridge National Lab!
